GOBA + CareerSource Partner to Host 100 OCPS Students

Building Futures: Construction Career Day at GOBA with CareerSource

On Wednesday, September 24th, GOBA Partnered with CareerSource to proudly host 100 high school students from 4 Orange County Public Schools. Presented by the Workforce Development Committee, the students rotated through 7 hands-on activities pertaining to residential construction. They learned about ICF walls with Turning Leaf Custom Homes, engaged in a structural design challenge with Total Solutions Group, applied wall wrap & watched a window installation demo with Parksite and Weathermaster Building Products, designed & rendered a bathroom with Central Kitchen & Bath Design Studio, learned about fiber optics with Fision by Hotwire, saw a Score & Snap Porcelain Slab Demo with Slim Design Solutions, and were educated on smart home technology with Future Home Integration.

Near the end of the program, students learned about the Home Builders Institute Pre Apprentice programs and explored heavy machinery brought by ODC, Cemex, and LQ Construction. Through these activities, students gained first-hand exposure to the diverse and rewarding career paths available in construction. More than just building homes, the event showcased how the industry combines creativity, problem-solving, collaboration, and community impact.

Special thanks to our GOBA members, volunteers, and CareerSource partners for making this event a success. Together, we are inspiring the next generation to consider careers in construction and helping them see that there is a place for everyone in this vital industry.
